Protocol as at 23 March 2020

Purpose

This protocol was created for use during the outbreak of coronavirus to help ARQ continue to save lives during this emergency that impacts normal operations. We need to maintain a level of business as usual as unfortunately dogs will continue to breed, and owners will have even less resources and financial capacity to look after their animals. Without rescue groups adjusting and working as safe as possible, this could indeed become its own crisis.

Procedure

Preparations have begun to adjust the way we work at ARQ and will be monitored, adjusted and updated as needed.

ARQ and COVID-19

Fostering

Fostering: Aim is to find foster care for as many dogs as needed.

• We have adjusted the foster pet expectation for a minimum of 6-8 weeks as needed

• Supply of essential goods such as food will be via online post and click and collect

• When you pick up your foster dog/s, the pickup will be limited to one person (not the whole family) at a time and will be conducted in the open air (backyard not lounge room) and a 1.5m distance to be maintained between people

• Please bring your own hand sanitiser / wipes to ensure a level of safe hygiene

• Ongoing support to be continued via email and text rather than in person

• Emergencies only will be supported via phone calls

• At all times throughout fostering, please ensure you are healthy to do so and can conduct safe adoption meets as per below

Adoptions

Adoptions: Aim is to continue to adopt while adjusting safety accordingly.

• Avoid requiring groups of people to gather in one place – all future group adoption days and cuddle sessions are now cancelled

• Before attending a meet, please ensure you are healthy to do so

• Complete as much of the pre-adoption process as possible (questions etc) in phone calls and a facetime chat

• All meet and greets to be limited to one family at a time (all family members and existing dog/s still to attend unless otherwise notified)

• Meet and greets should be conducted in the open air (backyard not lounge room) and a 1.5m distance to be maintained between the family and the foster carer

• All meet and greets should be respectfully limited to a short face to face meeting of around 30minutes. Anything further should be offered in facetime / video chat

• Please bring your own hand sanitiser / wipes to ensure a level of safe hygiene

General Tips

General Tips: Aim is to keep everyone safe.

• If you need anything or have any questions, please send us an email

• If you have an emergency, please phone or text 0410150797. Please respect that there is one phone line and one person to man this, so limit the calls to emergencies only

• If you become unwell or you need to isolate, please contact us immediately and we will look to transfer the foster dog in a safe manner

Reminder – it is fine to ask those you are interacting with that you not attend meets etc if anyone is unwell - that it can be rescheduled. Any changes will be notified immediately.
